POM (Polyoxymethylene)

Polyoxymethylene (POM), also known as Polyacetal Resin, POM Plastic, or Acetal, is a type of engineering plastic available in white or black plastic granules. It is characterized by high hardness, high rigidity, and high wear resistance.
 
POM can be divided into two types: Homopolymer Acetal and Copolymer Acetal. The key differences between the two are:
 
Homopolymer POM: Has higher density, crystallinity, and melting point, but exhibits poor thermal stability, a narrow processing temperature range (approx. 10°C), and slightly lower resistance to acids and alkalis.

Copolymer POM: Has lower density, crystallinity, melting point, and strength compared to homopolymer, but offers good thermal stability, resistance to decomposition, a wide processing temperature range (approx. 50°C), and better resistance to acids and alkalis.

POM is an engineering plastic with excellent comprehensive properties. It possesses good physical, mechanical, and chemical properties, with particularly outstanding friction resistance. Commonly known as "Acetal" or "Duracon," it is the third most widely used general engineering plastic.
 
It is suitable for manufacturing products that function as structural components, such as wear-resistant and friction-reducing parts, transmission components, gears, bearings, automotive parts, machine parts, and internal instrument components.
 
Basic Properties of POM (Polyoxymethylene)
(1)High rigidity&high strength: POM has mechanical properties similar to metals and is a lightweight material that replaces metals such as copper, zinc, and aluminum.
(2)Low friction coefficient: With good self-lubricating properties, it is suitable for manufacturing components such as gears and bearings that require wear resistance and low friction.
(3)Fatigue resistance: Able to maintain performance even under repeated stress, suitable for dynamic mechanical components.
(4)Chemical resistance: It has good resistance to organic solvents, oils, weak acids and bases, but is not resistant to strong acids, strong bases and oxidants.
(5)Temperature resistance: Short term use temperature can reach over 100 ° C (long-term use is recommended to be below 80 ° C).
(6)High crystallinity: Low shrinkage rate after molding, stable size, suitable for precision parts.
